Contest Winner/Team Lunch Review: Flip Burger

Contest Winner/Team Lunch Review: Flip Burger

Things have been a little crazy lately with the snowy weather, Michelle’s vacation to Hawaii (she chose the right week to be in paradise!), and saying our farewells to Amanda but welcoming Ashley to the team! We managed to find some time to get out and have lunch with our contest winner, Nicole, and try a new burger place. Flip Burger originated in Atlanta and has now 5 locations in the southern states, Nashville being the newest. Unfortunately, Carrie (the burger fanatic) was sick this week and missed out on a pretty cool establishment focusing on her #1 meal choice. The decor is very modern and unique with a contemporary feel. It definitely has its own style and stands out in its Charlotte Pike location. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was pretty busy.    As an appetizer we started with the fried pickles. We could all agree they were delicious! Sometimes the pickles you get at a restaurant can be overly salty or even too bland, but these were neither of those things. They are served with a buttermilk ranch that was pretty tasty as well. And for the Entrees… Michelle ordered the Beet + Goat Cheese Salad    I had one of my standard loves: beet and goat cheese salad. It was a nice blend of fresh beets over greens with a trail mix of nuts and raisins, sprinkled with creamy goat cheese and topped off with a tangy citrus vinaigrette. And, since I had a salad, I justified the turtle milkshake. I had a hard time deciding between that and the Nutella milkshake but the nutty caramel goodness won out and was well worth the extra lunch calories! A side note for you vegans/vegetarians, the regular french fries are cooked in beef fat so you’ll need to go with the sweet potato tots or onion rings instead.   Ashley ordered the classic burger (since Carrie wasn’t there to do so!) and added bacon for a little flair. This was a really good burger, cooked perfectly and with fresh lettuce and tomato. The FLIP sauce they add was alright too, but I love to pile on the ketchup, so it overpowered. Even though I added bacon, I usually prefer to take it off and eat it separately, which means I am a little more picky about it. This bacon was pretty good! It was crispy but with a softer inside, just the way I like it! The one thing I would say was a downfall was that sides are extra, so I didn’t add fries or anything – which really, just meant I was able to eat the whole burger! I did, however, try...

Team Lunch – Acme Feed & Seed

Team Lunch – Acme Feed & Seed

Well finally  we managed to get a minute to grab a much needed Team Lunch. It was Amanda’s choice as the newbie, and her choice was Acme Feed & Seed, recently opened on Lower Broadway. Carrie was happy, they serve burgers, Michelle was happy, vegetable options, Amanda will eat anything so is easily pleased! Carrie: Walking through the door felt like one of my favorite places.  The staff was friendly and energetic. Once again the burger found it way to my plate and it did not disappoint.  The seasoning on the burger were fantastic. Cooked to order and super fresh. My fries were to die for.  Fresh, hot and seasoned to order.  And it was Vintage Vinyl Day which made it even more entertaining. Michelle: So much of a dining experience is the atmosphere and this had it in spades. Though I felt overdressed for lunch in a former feed store, I was not the only “suit” in the place. The staff was helpful and explained the menu options and recommended their favorites. I had the Vegetable Garden. It was a delicious, unique mixture of fresh vegetables. The flavors melded together beautifully. I may have had one of Carrie’s french fries…yum. The owner, Tom Morales, greeted us on the way out. He had just finished their rooftop yoga class that they offer every weekday (I told you I was overdressed). He invited us back to try a class. Of course, I’m sure we would be hungry afterward. The icing on the cake, however, was the quaint gift shop of sorts they have on either side of the entrance. They had unique, mostly natural and local items that would be perfect for a tourist or sending a piece of Nashville to an out of state friend. Bottom line, we’ll be back, perhaps even for some yoga! Amanda: For a place that has just recently opened Acme Feed & Seed has everything going for it to make it a long term fixture at the bottom of Broadway. The atmosphere was energetic but not too noisy so you could still have a decent chat. The staff were very friendly and helpful. So many tasty looking items on the menu, but I was trying to be good and had the same delicious Vegetable Garden dish as Michelle. I can not wait to go back and try some of the other dishes, they all look amazing. I can see a trip involving some shopping too…Christmas is coming and there are some great gift ideas waiting for you after you’ve filled your...

Good ‘Ol Jackson’s

Well, we missed last month, mainly because Kat moved and hasn’t been here to keep us in line. Our other excuse is that the real estate market has been SO AWESOME that we really didn’t have a lot of down time. Lunches on the go were our main staple in June. So, as we sat in the office, having finished a New Buyer appointment, we were hungry! We initially thought we would run down to Taqueria del Sol – nope, closed on Mondays. OK, how about Boca Loca? Not open until 3:00 so we went for a well-known go-to – Jackson’s. I bet you’ll never guess what Carrie had…yep, a plain cheeseburger, with fries. Here’s what she had to say about it: The juicy burger was on a very fresh bun (that’s a deal breaker if you didn’t already know). Fresh cooked fries rounded out the plate and I topped it off with an ice cold cold beer, and then a Coke. I had to be well-hydrated because our water delivery at the office was a bit late. I would highly recommend the burger whether or not you thought you were initially having Mexican food. Michelle had a Pimento Cheese BLT…hold the B: The bread was grilled or toasted – either way it was good! The pimento cheese was just enough pimento-ey and just enough cheesy. It was served with lettuce and big juicy tomatoes. The fries were fresh, just like Carrie said. Because I had Mexican food on the brain, I went for the sangria. I wish I had taken a picture of it before I stirred it. The colors were so pretty and it tasted good too! Next month we will be breaking Amanda into our Team Lunch. It will be her choice. She had better choose wisely. We know you all are counting on us! Oh, and sorry, we didn’t take pictures…we need...

Team Lunch Review: Etch

Team Lunch Review: Etch

We have been so busy that it’s already May before we have gotten around to writing our review for our April lunch! Since our last review we have had about thirteen contracts come together, so we are on track to have an awesome year. We have also had a bit more work than usual because Kat is going to be moving to Washington DC in just a few weeks, so we are working to juggle what can be done remotely and what tasks need to be handed off! It was Kat’s turn to pick a restaurant again, and even though Etch isn’t exactly new, none of us had ever been so we thought this would be a great opportunity to finally check it out. Looks like we can’t agree on everything – we’re back to mixed reviews for this one! MICHELLE (the vegetarian) ordered the Faux Veggie Pizza: This was Kat’s choice. I am not sure if she chose it knowing the food would help divert my attention from the bomb she was going to drop on me, but the food was very good. Before we got our drinks, Kat announced that she and her fiance are moving to Washington DC in the middle of May. While congratulations were certainly in order, I wished I had ordered something much stronger than water. Now, onto the food. The cauliflower appetizer was tremendous. It had two dipping sauces and was garnished with some sort of nut. Honestly, much of this lunch was a blur but the cauliflower was my favorite part. For my entree, I had the faux vegetable pizza. It was delicious as well. It was basically everything you would put on a veggie pizza without the crust. It was layered in a bowl, melty cheese, sauce, the works. As far as restaurant choices go, I would definitely go back. And as far as conversation goes, while I am sad to see Kat go, I am thrilled for her and Trip and wish them the best in our nations’s capital. CARRIE (the picky one) had – you guessed it – the plain Burger: Etch was not my favorite but it was far from my least favorite.  I love the location and atmosphere of the restaurant.  I can’t help myself – I ordered a burger yet again. I would have liked to have had options of cheese since I am not a smoked gouda fan, but they didn’t have any other options, not even cheddar.  So this one was really plain, I mean just bun and burger.  It was fresh but did lack flavor (I know I know coming from the picky one of the bunch).  It just needed a little...

Team Lunch Review: Saint Anejo

Team Lunch Review: Saint Anejo

Third time must be a charm, because we finally found a restaurant that we all loved for team lunch. This one was a double-whammy as we were celebrating Kat’s birthday as well, meaning we got to sample some cocktails, which never hurts! It was also the first 75 degree day of the year, so all of the windows were wide open and the breeze was perfection. MICHELLE (the vegetarian) had the goat cheese and spinach salad: I will officially gloat because I chose the restaurant this month and everyone was pleased. The service was exceptional. Stefani answered a myriad of menu questions and made sure we were aware of the fresh ingredients – purchased locally when possible. She brought us fresh chips and a trio of salsas. Two were varied degrees of smokey heat and one was a mild green salsa. We added guacamole which was made to order and perfectly limey. I had the goat cheese and spinach ensalada. It was simply delicious. The spinach leaves were big, none of that salad in a bag from the grocer. The goat cheese was soft and smooth. There were slivered almonds for crunch and the most interesting smokey grapes on the side. It was all topped off with a very light jalepeño dressing. I will definitely be going back but likely Stefani and her hubby Justin will be in LA by then and she will be a famous actress. We wish her the best of luck! CARRIE (the picky one) ordered the burger with cheese and fries: This was Michelle’s pick and she hit it out of the park.  I loved the vibe, service and food.  We had the best server, Stefani.  She was great with suggestions and made the experience more enjoyable  Again I went with a plain burger with cheese only (as if you had to ask). Who knew a Mexican restaurant could serve up one great burger! Cooked to my liking and the fries were great. They were seasoned with lime salt. Yummy. Can’t wait to go back and give their Mexican a try. KAT (the omnivore) ordered the black bean and corn salad with chicken: Michelle cheated. She got to pick lunch on the most beautiful day and planted me in front of the TV with baseball spring training games on and bought margaritas. How am I not going to have the best time here? I begrudgingly say that the salad was absolutely incredible, the salsas and guacamole were perfect, and Stefani the server is our new friend. Dangit. Really though, I love a salad that has just a ton of ingredients and different flavors, and this one delivered! The atmosphere of this place is much like...

Team Lunch Review: Josephine

Team Lunch Review: Josephine

Another month means another team meeting over lunch at a new Nashville restaurant! We talked about some fundraisers and client appreciation events we’d like to do this year. Stay tuned for more on that! This month was Carrie’s to pick and she chose Josephine in 12 South. Here’s what we thought: MICHELLE (the vegetarian) had the chef prepare a meal for her without meat: While there is not a plethora of options on the menu for Vegetarians, the chef was happy to whip up something that was to my liking. I was served a grilled vegetable sandwich on fresh, toasted farm bread with a side of house-made chips. It was very flavorful and filling. The atmosphere was very nice and there was a good crowd for lunch. I swear there was an ex-NFL player sitting behind us but I can’t, for the life of me, remember his name. Ask for Gabrielle, she’ll take care of you. Bonus: the white cloth napkins left lint on my black trousers but they were prepared with a lint roller in the Ladies Room – yeah! CARRIE (the picky one) ordered the cheeseburger with no toppings and fries: Well I will have to hang my head on this pick.  I had heard so many great things about the food here.  I ordered the cheeseburger and fries. Easy right!!!  I promise I am not that hard to please.  First my burger was fresh and the bread was as well.  They must put a kicker of a marinade in the meat.  I felt it for the rest of the day.  Also, they put two slider burgers on the sandwich.  I would have preferred one large patty.  I ordered the fries.  I should have stuck with the chips.  They looked delicious.  My fries were over seasoned and cold.  The service was good and I liked the interior touches.  KAT (the omnivore) ordered the lump crab salad: I normally wouldn’t risk ordering a lump crab anything. So often, a restaurant’s definition of “lump” is my definition of “a few shreds.” But the arugula and Meyer lemon vinaigrette were tempting, so I took the risk. The amount of crab meat on this salad was insane. It was truly a plate full of crab with some arugula and radishes as garnish. On top of delicious food, the interior of this restaurant is beautiful. It’s super modern and masculine, but still cozy. I absolutely loved it, and even took my parents back when they were in town this past weekend!  So far, Kat didn’t love her pick in January and Carrie didn’t love hers in February. Can Michelle break the streak with next month’s lunch? Where should she choose to...
