Things have been a little crazy lately with the snowy weather, Michelle’s vacation to Hawaii (she chose the right week to be in paradise!), and saying our farewells to Amanda but welcoming Ashley to the team! We managed to find some time to get out and have lunch with our contest winner, Nicole, and try a new burger place. Flip Burger originated in Atlanta and has now 5 locations in the southern states, Nashville being the newest. Unfortunately, Carrie (the burger fanatic) was sick this week and missed out on a pretty cool establishment focusing on her #1 meal choice.

The decor is very modern and unique with a contemporary feel. It definitely has its own style and stands out in its Charlotte Pike location. The staff was very friendly and attentive, and the restaurant was pretty busy.

 

flip pickles As an appetizer we started with the fried pickles. We could all agree they were delicious! Sometimes the pickles you get at a restaurant can be overly salty or even too bland, but these were neither of those things. They are served with a buttermilk ranch that was pretty tasty as well.

And for the Entrees…

Michelle ordered the Beet + Goat Cheese Salad  flip salad

 I had one of my standard loves: beet and goat cheese salad. It was a nice blend of fresh beets over greens with a trail mix of nuts and raisins, sprinkled with creamy goat cheese and topped off with a tangy citrus vinaigrette. And, since I had a salad, I justified the turtle milkshake. I had a hard time deciding between that and the Nutella milkshake but the nutty caramel goodness won out and was well worth the extra lunch calories! A side note for you vegans/vegetarians, the regular french fries are cooked in beef fat so you’ll need to go with the sweet potato tots or onion rings instead.

This was a really good burger, cooked perfectly and with fresh lettuce and tomato. The FLIP sauce they add was alright too, but I love to pile on the ketchup, so it overpowered. Even though I added bacon, I usually prefer to take it off and eat it separately, which means I am a little more picky about it. This bacon was pretty good! It was crispy but with a softer inside, just the way I like it! The one thing I would say was a downfall was that sides are extra, so I didn’t add fries or anything – which really, just meant I was able to eat the whole burger! I did, however, try Nicole’s fries and must say they were AMAZING!

I really enjoyed my lunch here. I thought the place had a nice vibe and some interesting food options. My burger was topped with avocado, cilantro-lime mayo, pico de gallo, and queso fresco. I thought it was very inventive and turned out to be really flavorful. I really liked it. As for the fries, I couldn’t resist – even though Michelle couldn’t eat any, since they are cooked in beef-fat. They were really good fries and definitely worth the extra charge.

Overall, we had a great lunch and we all enjoyed our food! Will definitely be back when Carrie is with us!!
